Update: Here is the link for my TED profile, where you can find all my translated talks. Hope you’ll like them as much as I do. Keep rolling in your comments. http://www.ted.com/profiles/translations/id/236879

As you know that I always love the TED. I can say it is a treasure of wisdom that accumulated from people who have made changes to the world. Ideas worth spreading is the motto of TED and it delivers and stands for what its motto is all about.

I have already noted about TED open translation project and I was really excited about it. With the technological advantages, we could able to share our knowledge with people all over the world, which is very good.

I found myself that I could make some contributions to TED translation project and make precious ideas to be heard in my native language Tamil. As far as TED is concern, all the talks published in the site have the wisdom that should be absorbed by people who have the potential of making this world a better place.

With the intention of mine to contributing to TED talks to translate them in to Tamil language, I have already translated a talk of Isabel Allende who made such a nice and amusing talk about passion. I wanted to point out some interesting yet important things she had shared in her talk.

She emphasizes the passion by telling true and real stories. I strongly suggest you to watch her talk, I will embed the talk in this post any way. So let me share some insights, which are I thought to share with you. These are culled from her talk.

Those athletes had sacrificed everything to compete in the games. They all deserved to win, but there’s the element of luck. A speck of snow, an inch of ice, the force of the wind, can determine the result of a race or a game. However, what matters most — more than training or luck — is the heart. Only a fearless and determined heart will get the gold medal. It is all about passion.

Passion always has the power to pave the path for success, I reckon.

Passion lives here. Isn’t it always true? Heart is what drives us and determines our fate. That is what I need for my characters in my books: a passionate heart. I need mavericks, dissidents, adventurers, outsiders and rebels, who ask questions, bend the rules and take risks.

I want to carry in my heart forever the key word of the Olympics — passion.

I think that the time is ripe to make fundamental changes in our civilization. But for real change, we need feminine energy in the management of the world. We need a critical number of women in positions of power, and we need to nurture the feminine energy in men.

I want to make this world good. Not better, but to make it good. Why not? It is possible. Look around in this room — all this knowledge, energy, talent, and technology. Let’s get off our fannies, roll up our sleeves and get to work, passionately, in creating a perfect world.

I believe that if you want to make a change or difference in your society, firstly you should become the change you want. In that case, you don’t have to explain the world what you are up to the life and the way you live speaks itself about the facts and changes you want in the society.

Mahathma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. This quote is self-explanatory.

What important is trying to be ourself no matter what circumstances comes in our way and ready ourself to change for good cause. Is it good, isn’t it?

Language is the vital part of our lives where it acts as major element of describing and communicating our thoughts and feeling to one another. Having said that, there are many languages have been disappeared from the world. This is because of those particular languages are failed to get attraction from people and societies to adopt.

According to Wikipedia, language is “the form of communication considered peculiar to humankind”. Without languages human couldn’t able to make sense in their lives and others, I reckon.

When it comes to life, generally everyone knows at least a language to communicate with others. The more languages you know, the more you understand about the societies, cultures and most importantly you will have more opportunities on the go. Recent years, there is a mania thing attributed to English language, where it has become the more powerful language to learn.

Most of the people around the world are believe that by learning English language they can have better life. Obviously, each and everyone very much familiar and adopt to their native language and that is the only language where they can deliver their thoughts as it is. Languages are blend with social and cultural background, where the idioms we use in languages differ from one another. Sometimes, same idioms may have different meanings in different languages.

Recently I’ve came across an amazing and clear presentation from my all time favourite TED. The presentation was all about the world’s English mania, where the presenter Jay Walker explains why two billion people are trying to learn English language.

Walker argues that English not the language that will dominate all other languages, but it has become the language of problem solving. But, he is very clear at that native language is the most vital part in everyone’s life. In his five minutes of crystal clear presentation, he makes audience to feel what all about this English mania and eventually he succeeded in his task. Have your valuable five minutes to watch this presentation and feel the difference. Hope you will like it as much as I do. Worth a watch!

What do you feel about this presentation? Recently, TED has announced about their new innovative move of Open Translation Project, where all the TED talks will sooner available in most of the languages. Its a great idea worth spreading. There are plenty of talks have been already translated to many languages and counting. Localization of ideas and technologies is very important to define the power of ideas and technologies.

The idea is most precious stage of every task, without any idea how can one accomplish the task? TED is a nice place where you can have all insights of people who have made changes in the world. I thought TED is an idea worth spreading.

Update: You can have a clean list of all talks at TED using this spreadsheet, which is automattically update every 5 minutes. Hope this list might help you to get most of the inspiration and ideas on the go as shared in TED. Happy sharing folks!

When It comes to web based email, Google’s Gmail has got huge popularity among the whole web based email users and its very user friendly too. Gmail is the only service which has change the way of traditional trends of a webmail service. Yes its an innovative new kind of email service. After all it has most efficient Spam filter, that means you can keep unwanted things out of your inbox all the time.

Google is always come up with new innovative ideas with their products. They wanted to make things simple and easy yet amazing. As you know, Google has launched an innovative feature collection in Gmail called Gmail Labs, in June 2008 with 13 features.

Gmail team wanted to do experiments with mail and come up with new valuable features to the entire Gmail users, That’s why! These Gmail Labs can be access by clicking the Setting link on the right corner of your Account, and click on the Labs tab item.

Where you can find really nice description about Gmail Labs, which goes like this,

Google Mail Labs is a testing ground for experimental features that aren’t quite ready for primetime. They may change, break or disappear at any time.

If (when) a Labs feature breaks and you’re having trouble loading your inbox, there’s an escape hatch. Use https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0.

There are lots of cool features presently available in the Gmail Labs and since, I am very likely use some of them with my account, which are worth a use. I wanted to share those features with you.

Inserting images

When I wanted to make an email with havin the image embedded in the mail was an difficult task, where I used to run my Thunderbird email client and attach my image to the mail . But, when Gmail Labs introduced “Inserting images” feature was mind blowing for me. That was long waited feature of myself. Boy its very easy now! It Allows me to insert images into a message body. I can upload and insert image files from my computer or even insert images by URIs, awesome!

Title Tweaks

I used to open lots of tabs in my browser when I wanted to search for something, this feature allows me to see my number of emails that I have unread in the inbox on the title bar, even in very tiny tabs’ title. Simply it just changes the orders of the elements in the title bar. So, I can see the tab and find if I have any new mails, even when the Gmail tab minimixed. Sounds cool right?

Undo Send

This is somewhat Life Saver feature. Sometimes I forget to mention the some important links or something in my mail. But this feature allows to get the email back within 5 seconds (I reckon) and add the links or whatever and send to the receiver. This is how this feature described at Gmail Labs page, “Oops, hit “Send” too soon? Stop messages from being sent for a few seconds after hitting the send button.”

Mark as Read button

Sometimes we recieve some mails, that we don’t want to open to see what it is in the mail, because those obviously come from some magazines and site that we have subcribed already. To mark a message as read I have to click on the “More Actions” drop down menu all the time to select “Mark as Read” in Gmail. But, now I have cool button on my inbox where I got it by enabling the Mark as Read button in Gmail Labs. Now it just a button click away!

Custom Label Colours

We always wanted to have diversity in almost everything. It can be anything, so as Labels in Gmail. This feature gives me the freedom to choose the colours for my Label. Where I can create my custom colours by picking combination of colours. Thats lovely and looks fantastic.

Sender Time Zone

I don’t want to explain about this feature, Gmail Labs has description is self-explanatory. “Should I reply to this mail or just call the guy? Oops… it’s 1 am. Sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb…” You got it right?

Random Signature

I used to state “Say you can and you will” – a quote in my every email I sent. With the Gmail Labs’ Random signature I can send variety of quotes in every single email I sent to people I care most, I contact. This is an awesome feature, sometimes it gives me inspiration by the way. Worth a use with your Gmail account. I greatly recommend for some inspiration.

Signature tweaks

This is something I really wait for. Before this feature introduced in Gmail Labs, I used to move my signature to before the quoted text in my reply from bottom of the message. And this just removes the crazy ‘–’ in front of your signature. Sounds cool ha..?

Offline

No matter what email service you use, that you can’t do anything without Internet connectivity. But, for the very first time you can access the emails even when you are in offline, by enabling the amazing feature – Offline Gmail. You can do lots of things while you were in Offiline, this video describes about it very well. Just watch it.

Pictures in chat

Just see the profile image of your friend, when you chat with them on the Gmail intergrated Chat feature. Just add some flavour to user interaction. Nice though.

These features allow me to have my routine task using Gmail as simple and fine. It means adding some boost to productivity. Technology always comes to play a major role in making things work for us in a good and better manner to enhance the efficiency and productivity, so as Gmail Labs. What are the favourite features of yours in Gmail Labs?

Open Source and its pace of evolving is growing as fast as it can. I am a fan and a somewhat user of Ubuntu – Linux Operating System since the inception of it. Recently Ubuntu has released its New version Called “Jaunty Jackalope: 9.04″, the name looks ridiculous but It holds lots of great features in it.

Here I am going to list what I like most in terms of new Ubuntu 9.04 version, which is I am currently using in my laptop with Windows Vista.

Tip: You can install the Ubuntu as an application in Windows Vista using handy Wubi application, which is very smart, easy and powerful. It takes only 15 minutes to set up Ubuntu and run on your system as an operating system, while you get no worried about losing any of your file or setting on Windows Vista.

First things first, I was really amazed at the boot time that Ubuntu has consume to start in my computer. Its phenomenal. That was great boost for this new version. If I am not wrong, It just took me around 20 seconds to boot. Amazing boy! Fastest boot time ever, I reckon.

Other nice feature that I felt love with Ubuntu new version was ‘Mac like notifications’ on the top right corner, with a nice chime sound. It gave me feeling that I am using a Macbook Pro. Stunning feature. Since, the notifications haven’t got any different model from each other, thus sometimes it bit confusing, where these notifications come from and which application is related to it.

Always I love the Pidgin IM, which comes with Ubuntu. Pidgin IM was a really great tool to connect to friends and family in one place no matter what IM service they use. This application was good at working and making things better.

A Computer Janitor program has been added to the System menu. This is to help clear-up cruft, such as old packages that are no longer needed. But, I don’t think it’ll going make big difference in terms of organizing the applications in Ubuntu.

To remove old packages, simply type,

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

at the command-line executing the Terminal in Ubuntu.

System Monitor that incorporated with Ubuntu was fantastic as always, and it gives most information at a glance. The graphical visual presentation of graphs and data are simply superb.

Since the new features come with Ubuntu 9.04 was really simple and smart. As a whole, day by day Ubuntu gets in to its aspiration to become a source of human friendly linux agent of all time.

Ubuntu getting better on and on and on. We can wait for some ground making features coming up with upcoming 9.10 version.

Oscar of this year is more special to me as I always wanted to see one of my favourite person holding the Oscar for the first time, since I was thrilled with all the actions happened at Kodak theatre. It was an awesome night for lovers of movies and emotions.

People have there own way of expressing themselves when they gaining some important stages in there lives. Oscar is the milestone for every person who involves with Cinema. I was really felt emotional when people who have won the Oscars whispering their voices with excitement. The remarkable speeches made me to write a post about people views and dreams about Oscars. Boy.. Its all about life, you see.

First thing first, when they announced the Best Actress in Supporting Role, Penelope Cruz. She is nominated for portraying the fiery Maria Elena, a divorced woman still locked in a complex relationship with her ex-husband in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She came to stage and made me emotional when she whisper some words I will never forget.

“This is not going to be 45 seconds, I can say that right now. Has anybody ever fainted here? Because I might be the first one,” said Penelope with trembling body. That was extreme emotional and she also shared story how she grown up to this stage.

“I grew up in a place called Alcobendas, where this was not a very realistic dream. And I, always on the night of the Academy Awards, I stay up to watch the show and I always felt that this was, this ceremony was a moment of unity for the world because art, in any form, is and has been and will always be our universal language and we should do everything we can, everything we can, to protect its survival.”

Everything we can as long we aspire of. The first time ever I’ve heard my mother language spelled at Kodak theatre stage in Oscars. Believe it, A.R. Rahman spelled in Tamil “எல்லாப் புகழும் இறைவனுக்கே” which means “God is great”. I felt that much happy when they announced A.R. Rahman for Music Score for Slumdog Millionaire.

Since, his speech was remarkable, he said, “Before coming, I was excited and terrified. The last time I felt like that was during my marriage. There’s a dialogue from a Hindi film called “Mere paas ma hai,” which means “I have nothing but I have a mother,” so mother’s here, her blessings are there with me. I am grateful for her to have come all the way.”

And I wanna tell you about the speech he made after receiving the Oscar for the Song “Jai Ho..”, where he made me to feel what is all about life and choices.

“The essence of the film which is about optimism and the power of hope in the lives, and all my life I had a choice of hate and love. I chose love and I’m here. God bless.”

A.R. Rahman has contributed many original scores and songs for movie industry in India, his dubut “Roja” was recognized by nationally and bagged awards for music. I never gonna say that Slumdog Millionaire is the best music of Rahman, but it may be the one of the best of Rahman. Rahman deserves a lot. International cinema industry specially Hollywood will come up with Rahman’s stunning music in future. My heartfelt wishes.

Kate Winslet, I know her very much when Titanic movie came in to action in 1997, so then she has been nominated for Oscars for five times but she’s won the Oscar this time, she deserves it. The speech she’s presented after receiving Oscar is consists of her breaths than her words. She is so excited.

“Okay, that fainting thing, Penelope. I’d be lying if I hadn’t made a version of this speech before, I think I was probably eight years old and staring into the bathroom mirror. And this (holding up her statuette) would’ve been a shampoo bottle. Well, it’s not a shampoo bottle now!”, this is phenomenal an the speech will definitely take to your memories of early days.

“Most of all we had passion and we had belief, and our film shows if you have those two things, you have everything,”, said Christian Colson, producer Slumdog Millionaire when he accepted the Oscar for Best Picture. Passion and belief is the two key elements that make our life aspirations come true.

This year Oscar taught me a lot more than a movie does, you never knew people say memorable saying when they started to realise what is all about achievement. I am so glad to have bunch of individuals stating their hope and views on their success last night.

This was an amazing and stunning experience I ever had. I like people who make difference and guide us to make difference. Love you all.

When it comes to life, we all really intend to have a happiness filled atmosphere. Since, we all are living in modern hectic world, where everything becomes as more complex, we tend too seek better alternative ways to hack our life.

Nowadays, no one can imagine a day without technology. From television to laptop everywhere technology makes its way a unique. With technology it’s so easy to hack the life, I hope. Being a fanatic of computer related issues, I can say, there is no reason for not to use computer for day to day activities.

Computer has already become as the vital part of our lives.

What we can do is, just analyze all the possibilities and make a positive about technology and use them to enhance the way of our lifestyle.

Early days, if you want to carry a data from one place to another, we’ve used the floppy disks. But, we’ve extremely forget about that floppy thing, these days. Then we used to flash drives so called pen drives to carry our data with us. But, we can’t make sure the presence of the flash drive, everywhere we go. We might forget it to bring to every place we go. With internet, luckily we have given the ability to carry the data such as files and archives everywhere we go. To make yourself available for these facilities all you’ll need to ensure is that the computer you’re “borrowing” has a good browser installed and should have the internet connection. My favourite browser is Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome but, I prefer to use Safari very often.

Today, we are going to look up at some important web applications (web apps), that can make you feel better and give you the ability to use and organize all your data, no matter where you are. That said, web apps can make you truly mobile. It will no longer matter if you forget to bring your flash drive with you. Here is the list of the very best apps that you should know about if you want to have a truly mobile and portable office.

Technology has evolved a lot and has introduced several innovative solutions to the entire world. Imagine a world without any means of technologically related gadgets. We can’t imagine a day without technology.

Mobile phones and computers have remarkably gained a role in each and everyone life. For me, technology is all about communication related gadgets. What do you think?

Today morning I woke up to sound of my mobile phone’s alarm screeching, and turned on radio to know the news. The radio is also attached with my mobile phone. Getting ready myself to go to office, I received a call from my colleague and who is tend to come to meet me this afternoon. I’ve reached the office and put my fingerprint on a machine to mark my arrival to the office. Then I check my emails. Still continuing works with computer. Ooh! no.. It’s all about tech, tech and tech. Technology has the power to rule myself throughout the day. Is it a normal condition?

Many people tend to blame the technology, which has made people to look like annoying. Aren’t you feeling like this? Technology has its pros and cons, where we are choosers to make our choice to make technology a boon.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 230px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rAtWxcwlsmo/SRoKwLMOS2I/AAAAAAAAAnI/V-IRPvMRlBY/s400/computer_frustration.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267534536917273442" />Modern life has been made easier with technology, but for every development, there is an equivalent increase in complication that seems to compensate those benefits. When contemporary day problems occur, we usually don’t have the time or power to figure out how to solve them and what to do with them. Here I am going to give you a guide, which can help you certain extent to solve modern problems that have aroused by technology.

When it comes to computer, the internet is the phenomenal invention of all time, where we can find anything and everything on the go. And also, there is a potential of frustration on it to find suitable things in at a given period of time. So here is a quick list on how to grip some of these darned problems.

Get rid of interruption

The main source of inefficiency comes with distractions. By eliminating distractions we can have a boost in our lifestyle. Let’s say if you’re busy with a work, while your email notification blinks on your screen. How would you face this scenario? You have nothing to do with it rather than staring at what the notification says. This is how distractions come to our way to disturb the way we doing well.

Opening multiple web browser open on the same desktop also, gives your interruptions and make you clueless where to look for that you’ve already opened to work. Eliminating these scenarios will make your day a wonderful with technology. Disturbances should be avoided, but every so often a bit of music in the background can help you focus. Of course, it doesn’t have to be weighty rock music, but a bit of melody may do you some fine.

Learn to say ‘No’

If you tend to say ‘yes’ and agree with anything, it means you’re putting yourself in to trouble.

Instead of agree with every task that you supposed to do, you can set limit and inform the relevant people that you can’t do it beyond a certain extend. Saying ‘No’ to a request is very hard, but it makes you to feel better than ever. The raising of always on culture its employer always tries to connect his/her employees every possible time to get their work done. Don’t let it happened to you. Mobile phone might become you merely disturbance for you. Set your rules and inform them to the people who mostly care about you and your work. If you bind with the rules you can have more free time by eliminating unwanted call time.

Set limits to the Internet

The Internet has become one of the number one distractions. But, you can have the internet like a source; try to do more works in offline, it may help you to gain productivity in to your lifestyle. There are plenty of applications available on the internet to help you to work online with internet distractions. Google Gears is one of the well-known, best and reliable tools to work with. Just give a shot a try it and ultimately you’ll feel the difference about the way you work with computer thus, technology related gadgets.

Switch off

This is a very efficiency way of doing things better. You have nothing to do with it, just switch off the gadgets for certain time span, which are mostly annoying you. Most likely computer and mobile phone will be come in to this category. While you doing this you’ll feel calm and better mood. You can make this habit a routine and inform your colleagues and friends that you’re not available on particular time period. You can even put a remark on your email signature stating that you only reply for mail on particular time of the day. If someone intend reach you urgently, they might call you via phone or any other means. Simply unplug and feel the difference.

Technology has introduced several gadgets; everything has the potential of being user friendly and helpful. If we make those gadgets into much troublesome we might lose our pleasant way of life to it. Don’t make technology to rules you, if you let you to control the technology it might become bane for you. But, if you control the technology to work for you by having alternative efficient ways, you probably have technology as boon. I hope.

Following our heart makes much difference in our lifestyle. From one of my favourite personality’s speech, this statement has become most truthful than ever before.

I just across with transcript of the commencement address made by Apple’s boss in 2005 at Stanford University. I’ve already watched his speech in video at YouTube and its was a wonderful inspirational taught that I really had so far. Its better to watched that video, which gives you realistic idea about life and the way we should live.

In his address he had shared some of (exactly three) his own stories, which has given him the strength to be better one among rest of the people. The theme of his address was very clear and compact. “Find what you love, trust your instincts and follow your heart”.

Here are some of my favourite lines from from Job’s address. Worth a reading for the inspiration. If you want to win your life and to be a giant in your life, you should read and watch what Job’s address is all about.

This is something he shared about death and he pointed out how essential us to work hard for today, by imagine the day that we live in is the last day. Jobs says,

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

He also tells people to find what they love, and find the suitable thing for their life. He asks people to don’t stop searching what they have love for.

I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

This is how we have to live, where we can get everything we wanted in our life. Life is full of risks and opportunities where we have to make the choice. Finally Steve Jobs says in his address, “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish”. Exactly, being hungry will make us to find ways to get what we want. Being foolish will make ourself aware about the issues in the life to make ourself diligent. So, “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish”.
